Naturopathic Nutrition stresses the use of whole and organic foods as medicine...
What is Naturopathic Nutrition?
Naturopathic Nutrition stresses the use of whole and organic foods as medicine, an integral concept of healing in many indigenous societies. Today, we see that a return to chemical-free foods, along with other dietary measures, is an effective answer to many health complaints and common conditions.
Thousands of years ago, master healers in China perceived a way to classify food and disease according to simple, easily observed patterns, one eats cooling foods for over-heated conditions and warming foods are best for people who feel cold.
Detoxifying foods are for those who carry an excess of toxins and building foods and good for deficiencies.
As a naturopath, I do not believe in the use of dietary supplements, where such benefits can be achieved better through the food we eat. Obviously there may be occasions when certain supplementation is of benefit.
By applying the principles of naturopathic nutrition as part of an overall treatment plan, maximum benefits will be achieved.
Detoxification (Detox)
In our modern world we are exposed to a vast amount of toxins as compared to even 50 years ago.
These include pesticides, sweetners, preservatives in food and cosmetics, plastics, residues in drinking water, air pollutants and different forms of radiation. Even if one leads a healthy lifestyle but has a sluggish digestive system or is constipated, internal breakdown products from normal digestive processes can build up in the gut causing many health problems and a decrease in absorption of nutrients from the foods one consumes.
As a result the toxic load on the body becomes too much for it to deal with and the normal functioning of our detoxification organs becomes impaired. When left unchecked this is likely to lead to ill-health.
Some initial symptoms of a toxic system are tiredness, constipation, joint pains, headaches, spots, eczema, lack of concentration etc.
