Understanding Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has a long tradition in all cultures and recent research has begun to prove some of the huge benefits of using herbs. Whereas much modern medicine has unwelcome side effects, herbs can provide a gentle, yet powerful solution to a wide range of physical and emotional problems.

As well as relieving symptoms, herbal medicine also works on a deeper level to help patients return to full harmony.

Thanks to training in a variety of herbal traditions, Western, Ayurvedic and Chinese herbal medicine I am equipped to make a multi-faceted, holistic diagnosis. Furthermore I am able to draw from a wide variety of herbs from different traditions to provide the best possible treatment for my patients.

Is herbal medicine safe?

YES: herbal medicine as prescribed by a trained professional has an excellent safety record.

Consulting a professional herbalist is more beneficial than self-medication with over-the-counter herbal preparations because the most suitable herbs for your condition and body are chosen.

Herbal medicine has quite literally been a life changing experience for me. Although the benefits of diet and exercise were very clear to me as they are to most people these days, I was sceptical about how much of an effect herbs could have when used as medicines. I began to study the theory and it all began to make sense, but then I attended clinics and I was convinced.

Regulation of Herbal Medicine

In the UK, the Department of Health is expected to create a statutory register of practitioners within the next three years. In order to use the title “Practitioner of Herbal Medicine”, therapists will have to be on the register.

As a member of the Unified Register of Herbal Practitioners (URHP) I am bound by a strict code of ethics and allowed to practice legally within the UK.
